Reducing Risk of Exposure
An Exposure Control Plan will contain site-specific methods used to reduce the risk of occupational exposure:
- Engineering and work practice controls consist of procedures to help you complete your job tasks with minimal risk of exposure.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) isolates your body from contact.
- Housekeeping protocols keep potentially infectious materials from lingering on surfaces.
- Proper containment and labeling of potentially infectious materials ensure these items are handled appropriately.

Another key part of the plan includes listing the site-specific means by which the facility will reduce employee risk.
These methods include appropriate training, the communication of hazards, hepatitis B vaccinations for any employee with an occupational risk of exposure, methods for post-exposure evaluation and follow-up, and proper recordkeeping.
