Classroom Rules and Expectations
Why are Classroom Rules Important?
Classroom rules are a positive and effective way of guiding children and helping them learn acceptable behavior. Rules are limits that encourage children to develop self-control and should be simple and limited. Involve children in making the classroom rules and give them the reasons for why the rules are important.
Children need to see the rules in large print and need to see themselves doing the specific rule or at least pictures that represent what the rule means. Rules should explain what you want to see and be clear and simple. Examples of this could be “We use walking feet.” or “We use quiet voices inside.”
