Exploring the Five Senses
Hi there!! Are you ready to go hands-on in your classroom and allow your students to demonstrate an understanding of the five senses? Well let’s go! We are about to embark through a journey to demonstrate, understand, and learn the importance of our five senses in our daily lives. Below, I have listed the materials that will be needed for our first activity.
Materials:
- Blindfolds or opaque scarves (one per student)
- Assorted fruits (e.g., apple, orange, banana, strawberry)
- Paper and pencils
- YouTube video: “The Amazing World of Senses” (pre-selected and queued)

Begin the lesson by asking students to close their eyes and focus on their breathing for a minute.
Engage them in a brief discussion about the importance of our senses in our everyday lives. Ask questions like:
- How do our senses help us understand the world around us?
- Can you imagine what it would be like to lose one of your senses? How would that impact your daily life?
Next, is the introduction part! Explain to the students that today, we will be exploring our senses in a fun and interactive way. Show the YouTube video “The Five Senses” to spark curiosity and initiate a class discussion. Encourage students to share any fascinating facts or observations they made while watching the video.
Now that we had a quick overview of the five senses as a whole, let’s move onto our next lesson and talk about the first of the five senses…..sight!
