Make it a priority to discuss topics like wandering and elopement– or any other safety concerns you or the family might have- so that everyone is aware of the risks and can work together to find solutions. Studies have shown that caregivers often do not engage in conversations about wandering/elopement or health and safety simply because they assume someone else already had that discussion. It is your responsibility to ensure a child’s safety in your classroom, so do not be afraid to ask questions or shy away from difficult conversations.
