SETTING THE FOUNDATION FOR QUALITY CARE

The orientation curriculum was developed by the Cabinet for Families and Children and the Department for Community Based Services, Division of Child Care in 1994 to fulfill the requirements of KRS 199.892 et seq. for new child care providers. The most current revisions were made in June 2021.

This six-hour online course meets the orientation criteria for early care and education professionals in Kentucky. By finishing this course, participants fulfill the Division of Child Care’s (DCC) new regulatory mandate to ensure that all center staff are trained in first aid and CPR.

The orientation training comprises three modules:

  1. Health, safety & sanitation – 2 hours
  2. Recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect – 1 hour
  3. Recommended practices in early care and education – 3 hours

Students should have access to a printer for supplementary handouts and reference materials.

To obtain a certificate, all activities across the three modules must be completed. Activities, excluding non-graded ones relating to personal experiences or work environment, must be completed with an accuracy rate of at least 80%. Participants can redo activities until they achieve the required accuracy.

Upon successful completion, a certificate of completion will be available within the course, and participants’ training records will be updated in ECE-TRIS within 10 days.
