Module 8: Challenging Behavior, we will identify and define challenging behavior, and work to understand why challenging behavior happens. We will discuss how to gather data and implement strategies that will prevent challenging behavior. We will also discuss strategies to address or respond effectively to challenging behavior when it is present. We can work to prevent children’s challenging behavior and effectively respond when it does occur at the same time. In doing this, we can build social- emotional competence in our young learners. Learning Objectives:

  • Identify how we define challenging behavior in infants and toddlers
  • Understand the steps for developing an individualized behavior support plan
  • Understand how implicit bias impacts how we respond to behavior
  • Understand ways to gather information to help us better understand challenging behavior
  • Understand behavior, meet children’s needs, prevent behavior, and teach children new replacement skills
