Description

Spotting concerns early is one of the most powerful things an early childhood professional can do. This course introduces the Ages and Stages Questionnaires: Social-Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2), a trusted screening tool designed to identify social-emotional strengths and concerns in children from 1 month to 6 years old. Participants will explore the seven areas of social-emotional development, learn how to administer and score the tool accurately, and practise sharing results with families in a clear and supportive way. Key topics include the role of family partnership in screening, how to interpret results using professional judgment, and how to use the ASQ:SE-2 alongside the ASQ-3 for a complete picture of each child’s development.

Course Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define social-emotional development and explain its importance in early childhood.
  2. Describe the purpose, structure, and key features of the ASQ:SE-2 screening tool.
  3. Identify the seven areas of social-emotional development assessed by the ASQ:SE-2.
  4. Administer the ASQ:SE-2 accurately and support family participation in the screening process.
  5. Score and interpret ASQ:SE-2 results using professional judgment and contextual factors.
  6. Use the ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 together to gain a complete picture of a child’s development.
