Throughout this course, you will examine characteristics of autism, address and correct prevalent myths, and explore how autism can influence communication, social interaction, behavior, sensory processing, and overall development. You will also learn practical strategies for designing autism-friendly classrooms, such as optimizing the physical environment, using visual supports, incorporating personal space tools, establishing calm-down areas, and implementing predictable routines.

This training also covers essential safety considerations, including wandering and elopement, and clarifies the educator’s responsibilities in safety planning. Participants will gain guidance on sharing concerns with families and navigating challenging conversations with professionalism and empathy.
