This training will cover an overview of behaviors, resiliency, and strategies to use in the classroom to assist with decreasing challenging behaviors. After discussing common challenging behaviors in early childhood classrooms, participants will have the opportunity to participate in group discussions about strategies to support those children and the classroom. These topics will lead to deeper learning on how identifying behaviors and using effective and consistent strategies will foster connections and lead to regulation and resiliency.

Within this course, we will build a foundation for an Infant-Toddler Training Series based off of the Pyramid Model. We will accomplish this by providing an overview of the Pyramid Model for Promoting Social-Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children, discussing some helpful definitions and terms, going over social-emotional milestones, and talking about the caregiver’s role in supporting a child’s social-emotional development. In this course we’re going to talk about an area you deal with everyday—child behavior. When we say “behavior” we mean anything you can observe as children act and respond within their environment. We’ll start with an overview of what helps you to make sense of what you are seeing and hearing and appropriately understand and respond to behaviors. We’ll talk about behavior as communication, factors that influence behavior, and we’ll do some thinking about factors that influence our own perceptions of behavior. Welcome to the next session in the Infant-Toddler Pyramid Model Training Series, where we are going to learn about developing emotional literacy and teaching about emotions. In this course we are going to discuss strategies and ideas for providing additional opportunities in the classroom that will support children’s understanding and expression of emotions.
